I am a freelance photographer, born, raised and based in London.
Over the years I have mainly concentrated my efforts within the worlds of street photography and photojournalism, honing my talent and eye for capturing a moment. But when I re-discovered unit stills photography I realised that this was what I should be doing.
A perfect mix of of all the elements that go into street and journalism work.
I say re-discovered as when I left school I went on to study 3D Design at college. I wanted to work in the world of special fx, building props and models for film sets. I spent hours reading 'The making of' books, flicking through all the behind the scenes photos of the crew, model shops and stages. I never knew then, that one day I would be the one taking those pictures.
For me, shooting behind the scenes on a set is very much like street photography in that you need to be right there in the middle of the moment with out being noticed or in the way. The job allows me to use that and my love of photojournalism to try and capture and tell the story of how a production is made. From the loading of the mags to the scratching of heads, unit stills for me is all about watching, waiting and being ready.
Finding and capturing the poster image for a film also adds another side to the job that I find greatly enjoyable. It gives you that extra bit of freedom and creativity that is normally reserved for the studio photographer and it always add a bit of extra fun to a project.
